Latest Updates from Our Project:

Starship V Launches Wednesday!
over 3 years ago – Wed, Sep 09, 2020 at 10:43:01 AM

It is finally time! After six months of development, the Sleipnir formerly known as the Notinante, is finally coming to Kickstarter. And she’s not coming alone!

Click on the image above to be reminded when we go live!

We go live 17:00 UTC/GMT +2 (Central Europe), that is 11:00 AM New York time, 8:00 AM L.A. time, and 1:00 AM Sydney time.

Miniatures

But what is a ship without its crew? The Sleipnir comes with five standard crew, a rag-tag gang of hardened space mercs. Optimised for SLA printing but fully printable on fine tuned FDMs, the crew miniatures have their own stretch goals and poses to unlock!

Deck Designer

Also premiering is Deck Designer, our new software suite to make reading assembly instructions, customizing your ships, and planning your prints a cinch! We are hoping to have a live demo available, as this tool will not only work on your 2ndDynasty STL files, but every STL file in your library.

In time, this is going to become the standard for creating new assembly instructions, but we are hoping, also for a place for backers and fans to make available their own custom configurations and variants.

Returning Backer Rewards

We’ve significantly dropped the price of the Sleipnir, a ship almost as large as the Chimera, but far more manageable on the tabletop. This time around we are not offering upgrade pledges, because 98% of the Sleipnir is brand new (with some remixes, but aside from WC units, more or less brand new).

However, your loyalty will not be forgotten. Returning Backers will get at least a $10 USD bonus to spend in the pledge manager on pledge upgrades or add-ons. We say at least, because this might increase even more as the campaign unfolds.

We hope you’ll join us again, and even if things are tight right now, we’ll have our pledge manager with Kickstarter prices open extra long so you can pledge just $1 and upgrade later if needs be.

New Ship Coming September 9th!
over 3 years ago – Sat, Aug 29, 2020 at 01:04:13 AM

Hi guys! Hope you have enjoyed your starships the last year or so! If there's still room on your table, I'm happy to announce that on September 9th, we are going live with our 5th campaign! Once again, this will be a complete ship, and this time, we are going vertical!

Heavily inspired by hard sci-fi and using the design language of ships from shows like the Expanse, she ship is a little smaller than the Chimera, but so much more convenient on the gaming table. The vertical shape is easy to store, and stacks one deck atop the other, removable with OpenLOCK pegs I've designed.

A full preview of the campaign should be available next week!

It's days like today you wish Kickstarter had a black background...

You can have a chance to help name the ship (it has been operating under the project name Notinante, but I feel that is too cheeky). We have a current survey (allows suggestions) here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScW9n5DReo1_YCTcRRNP08PnDL_o66WOMuH8BUpoPIKI5nxtQ/viewform

Popular names so far include Sliepnir, Baucephalus and Dulcinea.

In addition to the ship and crew miniatures, this new campaign will also include Deck Designer. Deck Designer (available standalone or as part of a core pledge) is actually a piece of software I've had developed in cooperation with John Games to help solve some documentation needs and also provide a very handy tool to the community to allow easier planning for our very customisable ships.

While there are other STL viewers out there, Deck Designer will do more than just let you view some STLs on a grid.

  • Supports multiple levels
  • Import any STL file into the program for viewing, not just STL
  • Greater file security (optimises STLs for viewing, allows us to distribute all our files for free by making them non-printable)
  • Give you a print list of parts to print
  • Allows you to determine how parts rotate and snap

We have many more features planned, such as allowing textures, lighting, environments, and a tutorial mode - that will allow me to make ship assembly instructions directly in Deck Designer, so you can follow a step-by-step process in 3D!

Anyway, I'll stop bothering you guys now, at least for another week! If you want to see a quick preview of the ship, and one of the campaign add-ons, check out our latest livestream below! Bye for now!

Shuttle Alpha Got a Free Makeover!
almost 4 years ago – Fri, Apr 24, 2020 at 11:01:48 PM

Well, it has been a while - I hope these strange times have been treating you all well. In the past few weeks, in order to procrastinate on my Notinante, for Starship V, I returned to Space Shuttle Alpha, my very first ship, and gave it a bit of a makeover.

A quick list of the changes:

  • Updated the folder structure
  • Remodelled interior of the fuselage
  • Added new interior parts to make better use of the space
  • Articulated boarding ramp

Let's take a closer look!

Fuselage Interior

The interior of the shuttle looks far more interesting now

The first thing I did was add a new layer of detail to the interior of the fuselage. Now you can see cables, pipes, maintenance hatches and the airframe of the shuttle.

Parts even exist for the Bus and Hard Point variants of the shuttle to have the same interior designs.

Interior Parts

I never liked how much wasted space the shuttle interior had, and so I set about improving the layout. It is now more spacious, miniature friendly in the cargo bay, and looks even more ready to rock and roll!

The interior pieces also got a makeover...
  • New sliding airlock doors that are completely functional and support free
  • AS tile with two chairs, to easier clip in place.
  • S and I tiles with new cargo seats that rest directly against the
  • IA Lockers to flank either side of the ramp
  • Articulated print-in-place rear ramp
New cargo bay look and open doors

With the addition of moving doors and an articulated ramp, the Shuttle Alpha now is more interactive than ever!

Upgrading For Free

So you are wondering, do you qualify for a free update? The answer is yes! If you purchased the shuttle on Kickstarter, MyMiniFactory or Drivethrurpg, the update is absolutely free.

All you need to do is login to DrivethruRPG.com and go to My Library. Search for Shuttle Alpha and download the most recent version (2.6). I would recommend a fresh copy of the contents to a new folder, since the folder structure has changed.

If you have since purchased the shuttle on MyMiniFactory, go into your library and download from there. If you purchased the kickstarter version as a part of our Starship IV Pledge Manager, it should be under Campaigns in My Library.

Caveats and FAQ

  • Will you be supporting small print beds?

No. From this point on, we are using Ender 3 print bed proportions as the expected print bed . We have not removed support for older smaller print bed varieties.

  • Have the instructions been updated?

No, and they won't for the time being. I realise this might be frustrating, but we are currently working on a tool to make instructions and print lists a thing of the past. That's coming in the next few months as a part of Starship V.

  • Why is the top fuselage sections not detailed like the bottom fuselage?

Because you won't see it when the ship is closed up.

  • Will the other two original ships be upgraded as well?

Not at this time, no. For one thing, the changes to the Beta and Delta will be more comprehensive, and there are so many more meaningful variants that would require so much work. We will have this level of detail going forwards, but probably not on the beta or delta for a long, long time.

A Note on Transport Delta

The base version of the Delta has actually been updated as well. See the change log for further details, but basically, there were some defects that needed addressing. I am very sorry these were in as long as they were.

There were definitely some long term issues with Transport Delta, misaligned clip slots, and unimplemented internal engines. I made a few modifications so that some parts should print slightly better, internal engines are now added, the Mk3 turret rings have been added, and a little more space in the side ring areas to accommodate elephant foots and shrinkage of the internal tiles.

One Year On...
about 4 years ago – Sat, Feb 15, 2020 at 05:40:03 PM

Guys, it's amazing to think that Starship III successfully funded one year ago today! This amazing project marked a serious milestone in my life, allowing me to switch to making 3D printable terrain and spaceships full time! Not only has it made me a very fulfilled creator, it's led to four amazing starships that are proving more and more popular with every day!

So with the greatest sincerity, thank you

You made this happen!

New Ship Variants!

Ironic that today, we also released two amazing new ship variants that were offered as Add-Ons for Starship IV.

The hammerhead scout ship...

The first is the hammerhead scout ship variant, which changes the profile of the Scout Ship Beta drastically. I love it to be honest, and am proud of the design. I envisage this as changing the Beta into an Alpha, ;)

A command and control vessel to coordinate a larger fleet.

The interior space is quite roomy...

As you can see, the bridge got a bit of an upgrade, becoming split level, but you could honestly do a lot with the space.

There is a new underside turret added, with stubs to lock barrels in place.

Next, we have a new extender, the Long Transport Delta, aimed at making the ship, well... longer :D

Stretchy...

This adds some more room to the Delta, changing the profile drastically. You choose yourself if you want to haul more cargo, have more spacious living arrangements, or do something out of the box, such as prisoner transport!

Very Stretchy...

These ships upgrade packs (and more) are now available on the Pledge Manager for Starship IV over on MyMiniFactory

Thanks again for all your wonderful support, and hope to see you soon in Starship V! Expect a homage to The Expanse!

Final Delivery!
about 4 years ago – Fri, Jan 17, 2020 at 09:46:43 AM

It has been a long time coming, but finally, the last of the items have been delivered!

It's been a long time coming...

Thanks to Isabell, our fantastic intern, we have completed these nine additional minis in 270 and tactical scale. The turrets had to be simplified of course for that size, but I think they turned out well. You will have to see for yourselves!

Of course, not every variant combination was possible due to the small size, but this should round out your fleets and allow a few more options!

BackerKit Closing

As we have now completed delivery, we will close the pledge manager on Backerkit in a week, giving anyone who has not locked their pledge the time to make final adjustments before we automatically lock pledges and send out the files to those who have missed it.

Watch out for backerkit emails if this is you, we will give you a week to respond before we send out the files and close the pledge manager.

Starship IV Pledge Manager is Live!

If you missed Starship IV, you still have a chance to get a hold of the Chimera and Pathfinder ships, this time on My Mini Factory. We have chosen them as a pledge manager because it means you can get direct access to available files!

The Pathfinder, shown above, is a somewhat smaller variant of the Chimera

Check out Starship IV if you haven't done so before the late pledges close!

Also, one final word, that our friends over at Ill Gotten Games are kickstarting Starfolk at the moment, great STL files for sci-fi minis! Check it out.
